Balicasag Island is in the
southern tip of Bohol Island.This island is about 5 hours from Mactan
Island Cebu, Philippines.The Area of this island is about 25 hectares
and can be roam for about less than an hour.This is one of the most visited
island for diving by divers from Mactan Island and neighboring islands.Because
of its beautiful corals and fishes,like the school of Jackfish. The dive
sites in this island is very good for underwater photography.Nearby are
also dive sites of divers from bohol islands but here in Balicasag islands
the dives are considered as one of the best in the world.The famous sites
are The Fish Sanctuary,Rico's wall at the Southwest part,Rudy's Rock at
the Southeast corner and the Black Forest at the Northeast part of the
island.
The fish Sanctuary is
the site that is protected by the Department of Tourism.It is in the western
part of the island .The shoal of Jackfish in here is very amazing, this
is the main attraction of this site.The corals are very beautiful too,there
are gorgonian sea fans,black corals,soft corals and coral heads.Fusiliers
are found here and so as the rainbow runners, damsels , clown fish snappers
and yellow-finned trevally .Sharks are found here often and during night
dives.
Rico's Wall is at
the southwest point of Balicasag good coral garden from 8 meters to 12
meters.The coral garden drops off down to 35 meters and more.Nudibranches,
sea stars , variety of tropical reef fish, anemones with clownfish and
soft corals are all around the area.Fusiliers, jacks, snappers, bannerfish,
moorish idols and anthias are hanging around the cliff edge. Small caves
and overhangs can be seen below 25 meters . Gorgonian sea fans, basket
sponges and elephant ear sponges are scattered.Often spotted are gray
reef shark and whitetip reef shark.| Fill
